How does VeriTime Track Comp Time?

This article provides an overview of how employees use and earn comp time in Aesop and VeriTime. If you want to enable comp time for your district, contact a VeriTime Client Services representative via Live Help so we can make sure you get set up correctly!

You can enable Comp Time for some or all of your employees. When enabled, your employees can earn comp time when they work over their scheduled hours, also known as Gap Time (optional), or when they cross the overtime threshold that you have set for them. When employees get comped for Gap time, it comes into payroll reports as unpaid time with the wage code CTE10 (straight time). When they get comped for overtime, it comes into payroll reports as unpaid time with the wage code CTE15 (or CTE20 for double time).

When employees earn Comp Time, those hours will be automatically added to their  VeriTime Leave Balance at the end of the work week. Also, the User’s Comp Time balance in Aesop is automatically updated to include the Comp Time earned. You can view and update an employee’s Leave Balance by going to the Leave Balance report under the Reports tab.

When employees have available Comp Time, and they want to use it, they can enter an Aesop absence for Comp Time. The name of the absence reason for Comp Time may vary per district. In this example, the name of the Comp Time absence reason is “Compensatory Time”.

That absence will appear on the employee’s VeriTime timesheet, as any absence does.

Also, these hours will come across in the Payroll Review report (or other payroll reports you may have in Report Writer) as CTT (Comp Time Taken), unless otherwise specified, so that your employees are paid for their leave.

Also, that absence will deduct the appropriate number of hours from from this employee’s Leave Balance in VeriTime and Aesop.

By default, comp time is a weekly calculation. This means that when employees earn comp time, that change will not be reflected in their balance and in reports until the end of your work week, when VeriTime can compare their total hours worked that week with their weekly schedule and overtime thresholds. When employees take a comp time absence, it will be deducted from their balance the day that absence occurs. Daily comp time is an option, but it makes managing comp time a bit more complex.
